My Boudoir Journey At 1 & 10 Years Married—If Not Now, When?

Let’s be real—I know the #1 reason you don’t want to do this. You think it will highlight your flaws. Your wrinkles, your “cottage cheese,” that bit of droopy skin that used to sit a little higher.

But here’s what you need to know—the #1 most magical thing about boudoir photography comes down to ONE word:

AIRBRUSH

That’s right, ladies. Boudoir is about celebrating yourself, not nitpicking imperfections. And guess what? Every single supermodel you’ve ever admired has been airbrushed too. You deserve to see yourself that way.

That’s exactly why I embarked on two boudoir photoshoots—
first at our one-year wedding anniversary and then at our ten-year milestone. Each session captured a unique chapter of my life, reflecting resilience, confidence, and a little bit of daring.

BEFORE WE DIVE IN: I believe every woman deserves to feel special—inside and out—I have a little surprise for one lucky reader at the end of my blog, who is winning a stunning Melinda Maria gold necklace!

The First Shoot: A Bold Anniversary Surprise

At our one-year mark, I decided to surprise Joe with a boudoir album.
I was nervous but also excited—I wanted to capture myself in a way I’d never seen before. His reaction? Priceless.

When he opened the book, he looked up at me, then back at the pictures,
and said: “Is that you?”

Why yes, yes it is! Your wife, in all her glory, looking like a total knockout.
That book still lives in his closet, and trust me—he flips through it often.

The Ten-Year Shoot: Celebrating Strength and Transformation

Fast forward ten years, and my body had been through a lot.

After a hysterectomy and mastectomy with implants five years into marriage,
I struggled with weight fluctuations, hormone shifts, and a completely new relationship with my body. But I made a promise to myself:

No matter what my body looked like, I would do another boudoir shoot at ten years. Because confidence isn’t about size. It isn’t about age. Confidence is about knowing your worth—scars and all. (Don’t forget the airbrush!)

Choosing the Right Boudoir Photographer:
A Personal Quest

Finding the perfect boudoir photographer is a process, but it’s worth every step. Here’s how I did it:

Researched 5 Local Boudoir Photographers – I focused on Fort Worth, TX, Dallas, TX, and Orange County, CA.
Read Reviews Like a Detective – If a boudoir photographer had glowing reviews about making women feel comfortable, they made the cut.
Studied Their Style – I wanted vibrant, light-filled, joyful photos. Others might prefer vintage, moody, or dramatic lighting. Find your style!

Narrowed It to Three & Asked Questions:

  • Do you provide hair & makeup?
  • How long does the session take?
  • What kind of props/outfits do you provide?
  • What packages do you offer?

Choose the One That Felt Right – Vibe matters! You want someone who makes you feel comfortable enough to pose in lingerie
(or, let’s be real, nothing but a sheet).

Embracing the Experience: What to Expect

Go Bold on Makeup – Overdo your lips slightly—it photographs beautifully.
Prepare for the Back Arch – Photographers love this pose. Your spine, however, will file a formal complaint by hour two.
Champagne Helps! – Some studios provide it, but I brought my own because I have standards, okay? No regrets.

Post-Shoot: The Reveal & Beyond

When I saw my final images, I was thrilled. And Joe? His reaction never disappoints. These are two books he can cherish for a lifetime—proof that his wife is, and always has been, a total goddess.

How it works (this was just my experience—each studio is different!):
✔ You start with 100+ images
✔ Narrow them down to 50
✔ Choose anywhere from 5 to 20 for an album (but you can always buy every digital if you just can’t choose).

What It Costs:
Session Fees: $300–$600
Hair & Makeup: $100–$200 (if not included)
Albums/Digitals: $500–$1,500+ (The more you buy, the more it costs—
so budget accordingly!)
