Do you remember the first time you opened a brand-new (designer) handbag right out of the box? I’ll never forget mine! I was shopping at a Coach store, filled with excitement, and focused on a medium to large tote. My eyes were glued to the register as they rang it up, making sure there were no price mistakes. (A girl works hard for her money! 🎵).

The next steps are etched in my memory and repeat themselves every time I buy a bag. Step one: they carefully place the handbag inside a dust bag to protect it from scratches. Step two: they put the bag in a special box adorned with the Coach logo. Step three: they wrap a big ribbon around the box like a final hug goodbye. Step four, the last step: they place the box in the largest Coach shopping bag imaginable and hand it over to me. I walked out of that mall feeling accomplished, proud, and protective. (Think Lord of the Rings – “MY PRECIOUS”).
I reflect on that moment often, realizing that it doesn’t matter whether the bag is from Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Louis Vuitton, or Hermès—the feeling is always the same. There’s something magical about getting or giving a beautiful handbag. It’s a small escape from life’s stresses, taking us back to childhood dreams of playing dress-up or becoming Cinderella. And guys, let’s be real—you get that same feeling from a Home Depot or a car lot, so don’t throw the first stone! 😉
I’m going to be honest—I have a LOT of handbags. Do I have more than some friends? Maybe. But let’s be real, no one actually needs this many bags. Sure, some bags are collector’s items and increase in value over time, which is why many women collect luxury handbags. For me, I just love them and enjoy using them. There’s no shame in that! If I ever need to sell them, I can. If not, I’ll likely gift some to friends and family over the years and pass the rest down to my daughter and stepdaughter when my time comes.
By the way, handbags are my favorite gift to give to my mom, sister, and friends! More on that below.

At dinner one night, a friend’s husband shared the story of the Hermès bag he bought for his wife. While I was fascinated by the story, I didn’t realize Joe, my husband, was paying attention too. He usually buys me jewelry for big occasions and enjoys the process of finding just the right piece. But for our ten-year anniversary, he had something different in mind.
Joe contacted Luxe Du Jour (LDJ) through our friends and another company for comparison. After a bad experience with the other company, he focused on LDJ. (If you’re curious about that story, DM me or reply to this blog.) We planned a special anniversary weekend at The Beverly Hills Hotel, and we exchanged gifts before heading out for the evening. I’d love to keep typing, but the video below says it all!
When I opened the gift, I was floored! Joe later told me about his amazing experience working with Lana @luxedujour.lana. Luxe Du Jour is a one-stop shop, whether you’re buying, selling, renting, or restoring bags and designer accessories like Chanel, Van Cleef, and Dior. I always think of the history behind a vintage Chanel necklace, imagining the drama it’s witnessed and how many owners it’s had. The best part? LDJ offers these treasures for much less than retail. I’ve even rented two bags from them—a red Kelly bag and a blue Birkin—and had an absolute blast with them!

I hosted a trunk show at my house with LDJ and LaPointe and met the CEO, Tammy Phan. I was so impressed with her passion for her company and commitment to selling authentic bags at reasonable prices. I love supporting women-owned businesses, and Tammy is the kind of CEO you stick with. If you check out LDJ’s Instagram, @luxedujour, you’ll see how much fun her employees have. The reels they make crack me up, and they’re a true reflection of Tammy’s love and passion for what she does.

Looking for a handbag or vintage jewelry for a loved one? LDJ has you covered! And if you’re not shopping for someone else, treat yourself—you deserve it! A pro tip is if YOU love it for yourself, it will most likely make an amazing gift. Use my code AMYPLUSJOE1 for an extra $100 off anything over $2000 at LDJ. If Luxe is out of your budget, I’ve linked some of my favorite pieces from Etsy below. I’ve had great luck shopping there, but here’s a tip: stick to real leather bags for investment pieces, and check for great reviews before purchasing. Happy shopping!
