The Masters: Golf, Green Jackets & A Little Augusta Chaos

Gunshots. A playoff. No phones. A sandwich that costs $1.50.

Welcome to The Masters — and trust me, it’s unlike anything else.

Congrats Rory — The 2025 Ending We’ll Never Forget

This year, Rory McIlroy finally did it.

His win was emotional, long overdue, and historic.

Watching him tear up after sinking that playoff birdie and slipping on the green jacket?

It was moving. One of those “remember where you were” sports moments.

After an 11-year drought without a major, Rory delivered.

He missed a five-foot par putt on 18, went into sudden death against Justin Rose, and then… clutch wedge shot.

Clean birdie. Green jacket. Career Grand Slam.

Flashback to 2017: Our First Masters Trip

In 2017, Joe and I got the chance to attend The Masters after our next-door neighbor (and PGA pro) Brian Stuard won a tournament and earned his ticket to Augusta.

We were so excited — this was a bucket list moment.

But we made one huge mistake: not researching where to stay.

We booked an Airbnb in what turned out to be the wrong part of town.

And on our very first night…

Gunshots. At 11 PM.

The next morning, police actually questioned us — someone had been murdered just a few blocks away.

It was terrifying and surreal — not exactly the vibe we expected going into golf’s most prestigious event.

The LIV Drama: Let’s Talk About It

We were really rooting for Bryson this year.

And honestly? The tension around LIV golfers was next-level weird.

The most surprising part? The announcers didn’t mention LIV once.

Even though several players were there — and some were serious contenders.

I don’t get it. If these guys want to play less, earn more, and spend more time with family, why shame that?

Being close to a PGA player ourselves, we know how brutal the travel and pressure can be.

So if LIV offers balance and family time — who are we to judge?

Also… Nobody Talks About This:

Everyone brings up LIV’s Saudi funding like it’s a dealbreaker —
but LIV also fully funds the Women’s PGA Tour.

Where’s that energy?

What It’s Like at The Masters

Let me just say: this is not your average sporting event.

The Masters is magic. Classy, calm, timeless, and thrilling all at once.

Highlights:
• No phones allowed. And honestly? It makes it better.
• Food that’s nostalgic, delicious, and cheap:
    ◦ Pimento Cheese Sandwich: $1.50
    ◦ Egg Salad: $1.50
    ◦ Chicken Biscuit: $2.00
    ◦ Masters Club: $3.00
    ◦ Domestic Beer: $5.00
• Bathrooms? Spotless. Like hotel-level clean.
• Shopping? Dangerous. We bought so much Masters merch we had to ship it home.

Don’t Break This Rule

There’s one big unspoken Masters tradition: the chair rule.

If you place your chair at the 18th hole at 7 AM, it’s yours all day — even if you leave and come back later.

Except in 2017? Someone moved ours.

Like, actually tossed them aside.

No class. Zero etiquette. Shame.

Golf Is Our Thing

Joe and I love golfing together — it’s fun, healthy, and something we both enjoy.

It keeps us active, gives us quality time, and yes, it gets competitive.

Some of our favorite places we’ve played together:
• Pebble Beach
• Turnberry, Scotland
• Lanai
• Maui
• Kona
• Dallas Cowboys Golf Club

If you’ve never played, try lessons together! It’s such a fun way to connect, laugh, and learn something new.

Masters-Worthy Style: Green Is Always a Good Idea

This year, green is trending anyway — so why not lean into the Augusta aesthetic?

Want to Attend The Masters? Here’s How:

Apply early.

You can’t just buy a ticket — you have to enter the lottery on masters.com, usually in June for the next year.

Book smart. Hotels sell out fast. Airbnb can be great — but triple check the neighborhood.

No phones allowed. Bring a point-and-shoot if you want photos.

Comfort is key. Wear real shoes. Those hills are serious.

Get to the merch tent early. It sells out, and it’s only sold on site.

Respect the vibe. It’s sacred. Quiet. Classy. And no, you can’t move someone’s chair.

Final Thoughts

The Masters is a blend of tradition, class, and once-in-a-lifetime memories — with just a dash of chaos if you pick the wrong Airbnb.

Between Rory’s redemption story, the LIV drama, and all the Augusta traditions that make it what it is, it’s still the most iconic golf event in the world.

And we’ll always be watching, cheering, and maybe lowkey judging the announcers just a little.

Have you been to The Masters? Is it on your bucket list?

Let’s chat in the comments or DMs.

As the echoes of Augusta quiet down and the final putts drop, we shift our eyes to something far greater than a green jacket.

This Easter weekend, may we pause—not just to enjoy good food, warm company, and maybe a few backyard chip shots—but to remember why we celebrate in the first place.

Get dressed up. Head to church. Let the worship stir your soul.

Because without the resurrection, there is no salvation. No hope. No eternal “Amen Corner.”

Let’s give thanks for the risen King who conquered death, so we could truly live.

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” – Matthew 28:6

Wishing you a weekend full of faith, family, and fresh perspective. Happy Easter!

Best,

Amy
