Just ask my parents from my teenage years—racing and wrecking my new car within two weeks, sneaking out of the house, and being “forced” to pee in a cup because they were convinced I was smoking pot. (They may or may not have been right ;)!) But even though I naturally skip the rules, I am honestly super excited about the fall looks. There’s nothing better than cozy and cute!
The recent trend was wearing grays, and I am so glad the fashion world has moved on. I would tell myself, “this too shall pass.” Or better yet, I just ignored it. I hate wearing grays and dislike the gray trends in home decor. I do realize you can spruce it up with accessories, but starting with a gray base color just isn’t for me. If you feel more comfortable in a dark color, I’d choose black any day of the week over gray. Anywho…I’m rambling. Back to the fall trends!
Let me start off by saying that 90% of trend blogs are all the same. It’s like rinse and repeat, listing out the same fashion dos and don’ts for the upcoming season. In general, I usually don’t care for a third of their ideas but love the rest. So without further ado, I’m going to skip listing half the trends I kind of like and go straight to my favorites—the FURS AND FEATHERS! When I saw that furs, faux furs, and feathers were in, I flapped my wings like Big Bird, singing Hallelujah!
Here’s a quick story: A few nights ago, I was sound asleep, and the air was turned down too low. I was so cold trying to sleep—I was freezing! I had a subconscious panic attack when I suddenly couldn’t remember where I had left my cozy, warm fur chinchilla vest that Joe made for me five years ago in San Francisco. Thoughts like “Did you lose it? Did you leave it in a hotel? Was it stolen by the house cleaners? Is it maybe in Texas?” took over my brain so much that I had to get up and find my chinchilla vest. Luckily, it was in my guest closet where I keep my winter clothes, and I was able to fall back into a deep sleep once again.

What is cool about most fall trends is that many of the looks are already in your closet. You just need to do a little refresh and see what you can make work. But for all you penny savers out there, outerwear statement pieces may be the one investment that is WORTH THE SPLURGE! They are investment pieces that pretty much never go out of style. And if they do, just wait a few years and boom—they’re back!
Here’s some of my favorite new looks to take a look at, from shag, to oversized, to vinyl or leather jackets.
As far as the feather trend goes, all I can say is “HECK YES!” I own so many pieces with feathers on them that it’s not even funny. They make me feel both feminine and fun all at once. I have a few looks that actually give off Sesame Street “Big Bird” vibes! But if you wear them with confidence, you might as well prepare to fly away with all the compliments you’ll get!

The good news about leopard print is that you can find similar high-end designer looks for much less. For example, I have a Dolce & Gabbana leopard dress that I absolutely adore. You can buy it new, find used ones on eBay for less, or simply find similar looks for a lower price. One thing I’d like to note is that leopard print always comes back in style. So even if you buy it now, just wait a few years and bam—it’s back! (This is great news, as I have one girlfriend who owns so much leopard print, she could open a specialized leopard zoo!)
Last winter, I bought three long faux leather coats, and I have ZERO regrets. They will be staple pieces forever and are a quick and easy way to spice up a boring outfit. I also bought my daughter a fabulous leather skirt and halter top that are perfect for the fall season. I’m hoping she wears them to Fashion Week in New York, strutting her stuff. Be on the lookout for leather jackets, trousers, and even some cute skirt options this season.

One thing I know for sure is that the beautiful Australian brand Bohemian Traders will be seriously stoked about the fun BOHO trend that’s in! I can’t say enough about this brand and the quality of their pieces. The fact that boho is back is exciting to most ladies, as it’s a safe space for us, typically toning it down. But this boho season is not only toned down—it is full-on runway show with amazing tall boots, a greater wow factor, awesome ruffles, and extra-large handbags and accessories!

The other trends that I honestly love are large sweaters and long, full skirts. These are a must for me, especially given my height. But there are two other trends that truly interest me: denim on denim and good old-fashioned plaids. Ill be on the look out for these two trends this week in New York.
Last but not least…THE MEN!
You’ve got to love fall trends for men! If you were ever able to get them to answer which season is their favorite, it would be fall and winter. Let’s keep it real, ladies—unless you’re a grown man with a six-pack who always has his shirt off, even to walk into a 7-11, you LOVE fall and winter clothing options. Being able to cover up that cute little belly with sweaters, vests, pullovers, and jackets is ideal! (Side note: I’ve never understood why it’s acceptable for men to carry an extra 20 pounds or more, but women are held to different standards. Thoughts on this?)
This fall season is all about the Eclectic Grandpa! Simply put, what used to be considered silly for a man to wear is now too cool for school. Joe, for example, has some really fun sweaters and long-sleeve shirts that his son once made fun of. But now they are totally a thumbs up! Other trends include the art of the vest, which my husband loves wearing, statement accessories, and long coats. But the look I love the most originates from my favorite show, The Crown! It has brought back sophisticated sweaters, adding a vest underneath a suit, and leather satchels and briefcases. I don’t know about you, but I plan on investing on these looks for my man!
I love these looks from my handsome man and the styles I love this fall season.

Enjoy God’s beauty as the leaves change, Halloween loads you up with buckets of Almond Joys, and Thanksgiving brings us all together once again! Fall is not just a season; it’s a way of life!
To God be the glory!
